The combustion chamber of a gasoline engine contains fuel and air and, after ignition and combustion, all of the semi-burnt residues. Most of the combustion products escape through the exhaust system but a small proportion pass into the crankcase as blow-by gas into the engine oil. Partially burnt fuel has poor oil solubility and contributes to the formation of sludge and lacquers on the metal surfaces. On the other hand, in the presence of oxygen, nitrogen and heat, the lubricant forms insoluble oxidation products which also contribute to the formation of sludge and deposits. With diesel engines, sulphur is also carried into the combustion chamber where it is converted to SO2 and SO3 during combustion which form sulphurous and sulphuric acids with the water which is produced from the combustion of the fuel/air mixture. These products, which initially reside in the piston rings area with the soot and low-molecular oxidised fuel residues (even there having a detrimental effect on the engine), are carried downwards with the blowby gases or engine oil into the crankcase underneath where they form deposits and lacquers or cause corrosion and wear. Liqui Moly Oil-Sludge Scourer is a special highly effective combination of oil-soluble detergents and thermally stable dispersants for rapid and easy removal of black sludge and other combustion products from the engine and crankcase.

Intended use

Suitable for all commercial motor oils in gasoline and diesel engines with and without diesel particulate filter (DPF). Tested safe with catalytic converters and turbochargers. Add approx. 200 km before an oil change. Can contents are sufficient for up to 5 l motor oil. Not suitable for motorcycles with wet clutches.

Areas of application

Developed for the latest generation of the Mercedes Benz 7-speed automatic transmission and is backwards compatible with the older Mercedes-Benz 5- speed automatic transmissions. Transfer boxes also sometimes require a lubricant with this specification. Usage according to the prescribed specifications from the unit or vehicle manufacturer.


One 300 ml can is sufficient for engines with oil capacities up to 5 litres of oil. After adding the product, drive as usual for about 100-300 km but avoiding full acceleration and then change the oil and oil filter. In extreme cases of contamination, repeat the cleaning process and, if necessary, clean the oil screen in the oil sump. Oil-Sludge Scourer can be used before each oil change.
